every shade of gray
was exposed
in the lack of sunlight

they stood tall
they stood strong
though the wind
howled through their limbs

they had lasted
decades of wear & tear
rooted tightly together
holding each other up

seasons that passed so fast
that they turned into years

hardly remembering
past fights
days of drought
being drenched
in weeks of rain
the saplings
who now
have been moved
building their own rooted web

the family
by the timber
that built this house

with walls to protect

these 2

as their once colored hair
turns gray
