my endless sea

all my ducks
wouldn’t stand in a row
they waddled here & there
with no place to go
quacking became louder
making little sense
to me
yet
the ducks seemed pleased

it rained for 40 days
and nights were dampened
with a gloomy tune
that wavered under
a cloudless moon
dogs stared silently
wondering whether a howl
would cut the dark
tucking tails & hiding heads
single file
into the house of dogs
are lead

a croak
of a toad
sliced the night
just as a dewy dawn
drew near

fog
filled the air
filled my mind
leaving dreams
far
far
far
behind

are eyes open
or closed
take the blindfold off
and let the mind see

the ducks now
swim in a row
across my endless sea
