painting by Danielle Wright

your story

you told me a story once
it unfolded
with a perfect plan
each page read the same
even though
the pages continued to turn

to someone else
it might be a bit absurd

you laughed a little
so did i
making light
of flowers
that bloom at night
while owls
hoot and holler
protecting
the space
that you made into a dance floor

you laughed again
then shouting with glee
get up
peel off the layers
and dance
with me

dance we did
till morning light
the blooms closed
till another night

don’t close the book
for
a story
needs no beginning
it needs no end
don’t count the pages
just listen
to your heart
it will lead you home
