with a smile
upon your face

i found you sitting
counting moments
that can’t be replaced

i found you
talking
though i saw no one near

i found you
waiting
for angels

at first glance
looks like you or me
but underneath lay
the soul
of a soldier
that we not be

a protector
a guardian
the caretaker of freedom

nameless
unidentified
yet known for
defending sovereignty

there is a churning
in the atmosphere
waiting
for you

for you
to clear the path
of conflict

for you
to break the habits
of struggle

for you
to recognize

i
am not dead
………………. yet
my bones ache
my breath is slight
but
fight is still with in me

am not dead

i focus on the future
…………………….. not years

hello darkness
you were my friend
when light was unable
to finds it’s way

you comforted me
with a blanket of black
you consoled me
with crocheted wrap
of twilight dust
you encompassed me
like a lover

scream
…….louder
…………..louder
…………………l-o-u-d-e-r
drowning out
the sounds of others

relishing in the feeling
of exhaustion
when you no longer
can utter a sound

the quiet
is suddenly
……………noisier
