in a desolate state of mind
the only cure
abandoning the multitude of thoughts
that seem be be a constant flow
hoping the tide will drag
them out to sea
leaving one on this empty beach
with merely one thought
survival

like that pier
it has weathered every storm
it is worn
yet continues to stand
like this man
that has been battered
he is tired
he is tattered
he is torn
yet
he continues to stand
as the winds whip
at his body
he plants his feet firmly
while waiting for a new day

with only one thought
survival
