buried memories

i thought
you were stronger
i thought
you would survive
the test of time
i thought
laughter resided within
i thought
the door would always
be open

you
spoke
too late
no one came
to replace
the happiness that once dwelled
a boarded-up place
too far gone
sticks and stones
will break windowpanes
the bones and memories
are buried
out back
