he called out
no one heard
no one
came to the disturbance

searching the fields
wading through waters
waiting impatiently
no answers were found

compounding his misery
the sun set
the moon rose
and he stood
as time slipped away
and died

does one enter
the darkened glen
at dusk
knowingly that night
will soon follow

that the moon’s light won’t filter
through the limbs
the ground
hard and cold
will not comfort

night sounds
will louden
while one’s voice
will silence

i might push you
in a direction
you weren’t planning for

that i expect too much

with insight
in her eyes
understands
the grand nature
of what lies ahead

daily toils
and struggles
to survive
attacks
from predators
jealous her stature
her view
from the sky

only wishes
to pass on
her awareness
