it was a shower

it was a shower
that rained
upon someone else’s parade
didn’t effect me in any way

it started as droplets
turned into a drizzle
it sprinkled a bit harder
until the forecaster proclaimed rain
it poured over night
in drenches & deluges
it didn’t seem real
that the clouds could
continuously reveal
downpours & torrential buckets
monsoon like weather
from some far off place
ruining the day
for
the picnic
the party
the pageant
all postponed & delayed
faces with frowns
sulking children
& parents in despair
wet shoes & dogs too
oh what a stench
who let the cat out
oh god
what a mess
reschedule
reorganize
rearrange
and hope for the best
damn it rained
on the wedding
not a good day
for the bride & groom
though many say
it will bring them luck

it was a shower
from the heavens above
that rained
upon someone else’s parade
didn’t effect me in any way
i simply pulled the shade
